Description
What is Aquathlon? Aquathlon is the fun and fast-growing sport that combines running and swimming. Very little equipment is needed to compete and races are generally completed in 45 minutes.

The Sand Key Aquathlon will consist of a 1.5 mile swim, 1,000 meter bike and 1.5 mile swim. The run will start in the center of the park near shelter 1. It will leave this area of the park heading south turning onto the main park road and following it around to the east headed toward the entrance of the park, then turning left (north) staying in the park all the way to the service road. The service road is a sandy trail that will head west towards the beach. Runners will again turn left into the parking lot at the western most lot and head south to the end of the south parking lot then turning right and heading to the beach.

There will be a mat to place shoes on for the swim. The swim will start at the waters edge near a triangular buoy on the beach. It will head northwest for 300 meters, then turn south at a buoy, head south for 400 meters, turn northeast at a buoy, and head to the beach. After the swim there will be a rinse pool for your feet before finishing the final leg of the aquathlon. The final run leg is a reversal of the first run course finishing back in the center of the park near the shelter.

The top four finishers in each age group will qualify for a spot on Team USA to compete in the 2006 ITU Aquathlon World Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland, August 30, 2006.
