Description
Packet Pickup will be Saturday, September 20th, 2008 from 12 PM until 6 PM in Sand Key Park. The event will begin and end in Sand Key Park.

The ⅓ mile swim will take place parallel to the shoreline in the Gulf of Mexico making for a safe competitive swim from point to point. Exiting the swim you will run across the sand to the transition area in the parking lot where you will mount your bicycles and leave the park.

The 11 mile Bike course will be on the open road with vehicular traffic controlled. Clearwater Police Department will be patrolling and stopping traffic at all intersections. The bike course will be coned off from vehicular traffic with cones every 25 feet.

  • Cyclist will mount their bikes once outside the transition area and on the road to the park exit.
  • Cyclist will follow the road to the right to the park exit and turn left onto Gulf Blvd.
  • The course will leave turning left out of Sand Key Park onto Gulf Blvd heading north. The course will turn left onto Gulfview Blvd and transit through Clearwater Beach area remaining on Gulfview Blvd.
  • Turning left onto Coronado into the right hand lane and staying to the right through the roundabout heading north onto Memorial Causeway. The causeway will be coned separating the cyclist from the vehicles. Cyclist will stay in the right hand lane all the way to Prospect.
  • Cyclist turn right onto Prospect (for one block).
  • Turn left onto Turner (for one block).
  • Turn left onto Martin Luther King (for one block).
  • Turn left back onto Court and follow it through back onto Memorial Causeway staying in right hand lane. Causeway will be coned separating cyclist from cars.
  • At bottom of causeway cyclist will turn right onto East Shore (just before the roundabout).
  • Turn left on Baymont to Mandalay.
  • Turn left on Mandalay staying in right hand lane, back to roundabout staying to the right through the roundabout and back onto Gulfview Blvd. veering right onto Sand Key Bridge.
  • Turn right onto Gulf Blvd. over bridge and turn right back into Sand Key Park.
  • Follow the main road and signage through the park to the transition area.
The 3.1 mile run will start at the south end of the transition area exiting the transition area veering to the left and running around the small pond on the trail/grass.

Exit this area onto the sand road to the beach and turning to the right and staying on the beach road to the north end of the beach (This is all hard packed sand). Turn right heading east off the beach and remaining on the sand road/trail along the jetty/pass. Following the signs to the end of the trail where the runners will enter onto the main road of the park. Follow the road to the entrance of the park. At the entrance make a U-turn and follow the signs to the finish line. The remainder of the run will be on hard surface road.

The run course is completely inside the park. The park will be closed to vehicular traffic during this event. There will be a water table at every mile.

USAT Triathlon - 2006 Bronze Sanctioned Event All participants must be members of USAT or pay a one day $10.00 fee for non-USAT members. Do not include with registration.
